Ok, obviously I have a theme in the type of books I like to read so I am not going to say this is a must-read for everyone, but if you're interests lie in America, freedom, heroism, the war in Iraq and Afganistan, and true stories....this is a MUST-READ!!! I am only about 50 pages in and I already feel that way. I can't wait to read further!
Anyways, this book is the "eyewitness account of operation Redwing and the lost heros of Seal Team 10" ...if that isn't enough info then let me tell you, Marcus Lutrell is the sole survivor of his team of Navy Seals after they were in the mountains of Afganistan in 2005. This guy is from Texas (the best state ever!), bleeds America, and tells it like it is. You can feel the heart and sole of this guy in every word he writes and its as if he is telling me this story, not writing a book. It's powerful! Anyways, you can find it HERE on Amazon.com if you are interested in looking at it further, or purchasing it.
Anyways, its become quite clear and rather interesting to me to find an obvious theme in my reading material these days. I don't know what moving out of my home country has done to me but make me even more patriotic. Too bad I have no plans on moving back anytime soon. :-/
Alors, on a different note: FIVE weeks until I move!!! And let me tell, it can't come soon enough. I feel bad talking badly of the family I live with because they really are nice people and they have gone above and beyond for me in helping me get situated since being here and I am grateful every time they let me borrow their car or any other favors, but there are just a few negatives that are starting to wear me down and I am seeing the light at the end of the tunnel on the day I don't have to wake up to a 4 or 6 year old anymore. It's been an interesting year and I don't regret anything that has happened, and I am thankful for all my experiences, but I am very much looking forward to the next thing to come.
On that note, I can admit though that I will miss my neighbors dearly when I no longer in this "cow town" in the suburbs of Paris. My neighbor, Peggy, and her husband have been so kind to me, especially over the past few months. Peggy has constantly invited me into her home to practice my French, for company, and just for no reason at times. During the holidays when I would be blessed with the kids for 10 hours a day she would invite all of us over so I would not have to be home alone with them. She has let me borrow her expensive sunglasses because she knew I had none, she has let me borrow her car, and she has offered me train tickets into Paris as well. When I moved to France I was expecting to encounter all closed-off, unfriendly French people and the people in this town have definitely proved that wrong. I have met some of the most friendly people here and if it weren't for them, let me tell you, cow town would not have been half as exciting! We may not speak the same language (you know, Franglais is not a real language but its the one we speak together) but it doesn't make the slightest difference. And after 9 months of living here, my lovely neighbors have invited me into their home for dinner. These French people may be different, but from what I hear, thats a big deal, so I take it as a huge compliment and a fine gesture and I am very excited to partake in dinner in the following week!
Anyways, just thought I'd tell you a little about my lovely neighbor! There are some relationships that you know are only for a period of time, and there are some you are thankful for and never want to let go of and I think that this lovely family I have befriended, I will be friends with for a long while. At least I hope so!
Well, the days are long here (the sun doesn't set until 9:30 and it doesn't really become dark until 10:30pm) and my friend invited me on a spontaneous adventure tonight so we'll see what kind of memories will be made then!!!
Oh, and I am so excited about tomorrow's lunch. I am cooking the most Tex-Mex meal you can imagine. I am busting out the taco dinner kit my lovely mother mailed me a while back (hope its still good), cooking some queso and i even bought some salsa. YUM! I almost can't contain my excitement!!
Well, hope everyone is enjoying this lovely day...miss you all but seriously, come visit me...its easier (for me! haha)
Love, me!
