This is how far I walked yesterday... and today my body feels it! haha. I think I might try walking that every once in a while just to work out these legs of mine that are used to working a car. haha. Life is very different once you don't have a car... you actually DO walk places! In the States I would've just not gone somewhere if I didn't have my car and sometimes I was even too lazy to go places with my car...now I am forced to go by foot always, sometimes bus and some train. Anyways, this was uphill and downhill so I got a good work out, not too bad!
And since I have not really spoken much about my kids recently I'll tell you about them: I haven't been watching them at all because they've had another nanny, i finallly start tomorrow, thank the Lord. So I spend some time with them after dinner each night and I've been trying to think of things to teach them that is age appropriate and the other night at dinner I started singing, "head and shoulders knees and toes, knees and toes.." everyone remember that song??? Well, they understood me and started singing the same thing in French..."la tete, les epaules, les genoux, et les orteils..." its fun to find the similarities between myself and the french (even if it is just a kids song) amoungst all the differences. And becuase of it, i am learning french almost faster than they are learning english. Good for me!!!
I finally went to the bank today and was able to set up an appointment for tomorrow at 2:30pm to get a bank account! Thank goodness! 1. the bank takes a 2.5 hour lunch 2. its going to cost me 3euros a month to have a bank account here with a visa debit card. :-( my credit card doesn't work here that well because their cards are different, they have a little chip on the end and its just different. but once i get a bank account i can then go and get the 3. phone i want and need so much!!! 4. bad news: i found out today i won't be getting my metro pass for another 3 weeks because ...WHO KNOWS! the lady on the other end of the phone said just because when asked why it takes so long to get a metro pass. ugh. so i'm left paying 8 euros roundtrip to go into paris or 3.5 euros roundtrip to go to Saint Germain or walking 40 minutes to get to Poissy!!!
More news: I found out today that there should be around 15 other au pairs in my town which will be VERY nice since there is nearly nothing to do here and sometimes i don't want to pay to travel to the next town and it'll be nice to not have to go into Paris just meet up with friends all the time. and also, my host mom told me that once i learn to drive her car (a manual) that maybe i can borrow it on weekends to go to the train station so that i can stay out late if i want to.
I really see how the Lord hears my cries and answers me and thank goodness right now that they are being answered because I am not sure how long my patience will last around here on things concerning transportation and money and phones. haha. I am really thankful for the life I am living and the blessings I have been given including everything around me! I am trying not to take any of it for granted at all!!!
You know the saying, "take a moment to stop and smell the flowers" ?? Well I have not only been using that phrase for myself to take a moment and look around me and appreciate what I have, but I have literally been smelling the flowers... God makes such beautiful things as flowers and green grass and I am so blessed to live in a place where both are everywhere!!
Hope you're having happy days where ever you are and staying cool!!! It's still COLD here when and if you are not in the sun, I've never enjoyed the sun so much in my life.
Tomrorow is Le rentree!!! Yay for back to school!!!
Love, me
