studying

This afternoon I decided a new way to spice up my practice of the french language would be to write thank you notes to all my friends who played a part in my fabulous birthday week --- but in FRENCH! good idea, yea??

It helps that all my friends speak French and I now can THANK YOU FOR... in French... well, I can't write it, at least! haha.

Just learning new ways to spice up the practicing of French because reading books and copying words is getting a bit boring.

Oh, and its FABULOUS weather here. jealous? And the sun lasts so many hours now compared to the winter... i am soooooooo excited! the sun and i are friends. even though i am pale. oh well.

au revoir!

haitus

I may or may not make one or a few last posts tomorrow before I take a haitus.

I am lending my computer to a good friend who doesn't have a working one right now and I'm not sure how long she will be borrowing it for.

Really, I need a break from my computer.... I'm slightly addicted to watching tv, reading emails, basically wasting any time I can here and not doing other things like studying my French (which is basically horrible right now).

So its a win-win...she gets a computer and I get a break from mine!! yay!!!

So, with that being said, don't miss me too much, but just saying... I won't be around online for chatting, skyping or writing about my oh-so-fascinating life for a bit.

and I can't forget...

I only mentioned last weekend, Monday, and Friday....but I can't go without mentioning my other SUPER cool friends I spent the other days of the week with.

Wednesday my friend Christina invited me over to her place where she and I and another au pair had an all girls night. Christina lives about 5 minutes down the road from me and we hang out every week during the week. She is American, super duper cool, and we get along great: she makes for good times with lots of laughing. She is also a super genuine girl with a heart of GOLD! I showed up at her apartment and her and our other friend had bought all my favorite snacks to munch on. They bought macaroons since they know I am not a big chocolate person (but I can eat my fair share of macaroons), cheese with bread (mmm mmm), wine (bien sur), and a few other goodies! It was such a special treat that I was not expecting. I love little surprises like that, it makes you appreciate your friendships that much more, when you realize how much your friends really do know you.

Thursday I was blessed again when a good friend chose to come all the way out to zone 5 (its the way out suburbs) where I live from Paris to take me to dinner since he couldn't come to my party this weekend. he said it was my birthday present from him. I was so taken aback that he would come to where I lived since I was not in a mood to travel the distance myself. I'm seriously telling you, I have the most rocking friends ever. It was a nice dinner and I love spending quality time with my friends like that as well.

Anyways! I have more pictures to post from my birthday party but it'll take a while to upload them so I will leave you with just 4 posts to read instead of 5. Tomorrow maybe.

And Oh yea, I cannot forget the many family from the States who sent cards and gifts! Thank you Aunt Dianne for e-card and gift card, thank you Grandmother and Grandad for sending a gift with Mom and Dad, I LOVE my ring Meredith and Wiley and thank you Memom and Grandpa for sending me some money for my trip a few weeks ago when I was in Italy!

Along with those gifts I received, I also received a lot of gifts from my friends here. Home made painting, gift cards, cakes, dinner, and special surprises that were so special to me! I cannot begin to express my gratitude to those you made this week so special for me. You know, being here in paris, so far from my family back home and friends back home, there are times when I think it will be super hard to be here and not there, and while I miss you guys dearly back home, I am sooooo beyond grateful for the family I have been able to create here. They make the hard times easier, the good times so much more fun, and France worth tolerating and loving unconditionally. And I hope you all were able to see a little bit into why I love my adopted city so much. I am beyond blessed and thats about all I can say to express that!

Thank you!

where to start

So I know I've mentioned a few times before how INCREDIBLE my friends (family) are here and how I don't know what I would do without them, but this week just topped it all. I had a birthday party planned at Chez Andromeda (featured in the last post) for Friday. If you don't know Andromeda, she is the coolest person you will ever meet. She is the jam to my peanut butter. She is the it! Anyways, we planned this party. We invited a few of our friends and I thought that would be that. I decided I would make homemade salsa, queso, and guacamole since I love all those things and I would share with my super cool friends here who don't know about any of those things. Well, her cool status went up about 900 notches when I showed up at her apartment. Her and our other friend Adrian (also pictured in the last post) had decorated Andromeda's apartment in Texas flags. I have pictures, don't you worry!! And then I took a peek in her kitchen and she had made bite size hamburgers for appetizers! So cool!!!!! I had no idea! I think that was the coolest "gift" I received this whole week, and I received quite a few gifts!!! And Adrian made me a homemade chocolate cake with homemade cream cheese frosting. Did I mention how cool my friends are?!
Anyways, the party was rocking, we had a blast, it went until 3am. Yes! 3am! We were playing UNO (the card game) until that late with the last people who stayed that late. All the people that mean the most to me here showed up and we just had a blast.

Oh, and Andromeda has themed the party "wigs, mustache's, and hats" so you were supposed to come wearing one. You'll see how things turned out. There were some great costumes, no doubt!

Anyways, that was my Friday night....Saturday morning! I don't think I will soon forget this past week! It was full of memories upon memories, unconditional love and amazing people!!!

Love, me

What else have I been up to?

Apparently I told Adrian that all I wanted for my birthday was
a hamburger. Well, there ya go!

Excited about the Hard Rock Cafe - Paris glass I get to take home

Adrian also gave me these super cool glasses. Actually, its a picture
frame.

So, Monday was my actual birthday. I celebrated a lot last weekend, what with my parents in town treating me to special things here and there, and I forgot to mention that my host family had all of us over for a special birthday dinner. Champagne included (a traditional drink for birthdays), so when my birthday came around, I was ready to celebrate but a bit low-key. I invited a few girlfriends to meet me at the Hard Rock Cafe in Paris for some hamburgers. Let me tell you, if you're ever in need of some serious American-ness when anywhere in the world, hit up the Hard Rock Cafe. That place hit the spot. Fresh guacamole, American cheese, Ranch dressing, unlimited refills on soda, TO GO BOXES (that does NOT exist here), etc, etc. Anyways, the dinner was lovely, the company was better and my friends (aka family) are really amazing and I am so truly blessed to know these girls. Oh, and we are displaying our glasses of yummy goodness so much because we decided to remember the day and upgrade to the drink where you get the souvenir glass. We were all so excited!!! ah, the simple things in life.

Anyways, I am so grateful to these girls for giving up their Monday night to spend the evening eating the world's largest burgers and being as American as ever in Paris! I love you all!!!

Love, me

what have i been up to?

Earl and Janet's trip to Paris!

Last weekend my parents came to Paris to visit me. It was a rather short visit as I only got the weekend off to see them and then they headed elsewhere, but we enjoyed our time together and did some sight-seeing. It's rather weird to think that I don't know the next time I will see them!!! I'm glad they came and I hope they enjoyed their time here.

So I kept Earl and Janet really busy, just ask them! I took them on a bike tour, gave them a run for their money in the walking department -- made sure their shoes were durable!!, taught them the ways of public transportation, how to avoid pick pocketers and annoying people on the streets, went to the theatre, had French foods, waited in line for Macaroons, experienced delays, late nights, my church, my friends, the culture, my small town, and the place I call home. All of that in just three short days! I'm sure they were just exhausted by the time I was done with them, because I was and I wasn't even jet lagged!

Thanks Mom and Dad putting up with me wanting to fill your days as full as possible. I hope you enjoyed your time in Paris and now see why I love it here so much!!! You're welcome back anytime you want although I have a feeling I will be going back to Texas next. Miss you already and love you tons!!!

Ciao!!
